Brutal Punishment.

From Moradabad in the United Provinces come the shocking details of a grim tragedy that is alleged to have been enacted by a Headmaster, who has now been sentenced by the Sessions Judge to six months’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 2,000 for causing grievous hurt to a boy resulting in his death. The story for the prosecution was that the Headmaster of the Town Schools Thakurdwara beat a boy of his school very severely. The injuries caused to the boy were of such a serious nature that there was very little hope of the boy's surviving. Then the Headmaster conspired with Sub-Assistant Surgeon of the Town Dispensary under whose treatment the boy was placed, to have poison administered to the boy so it could be called a suicide. Medical evidence, however, showed cause of death to be either beating or poisoning. The assessors found both accused to be guilty, but the judge acquitted the Doctor and convicted the Headmaster.
