Deaths from snake bites

THE number of persons who died from snake bite in the Bombay Presidency during last year rose from 1406 to 1608 and Government is considering what steps should be taken to minimise this danger. Government has offered rewards for snakes killed and if the rate does not bring about good result, then it should be raised sufficiently high to make it worth while for professional snake killers to keep busy. The Lauder-Brunton lancet was used in 82 cases, of which 22 are said to have recovered. The figures are worse than useless, says local paper.
