The latest addition to the Provincial Geographies of India now made by the Cambridge University Press under the editorship of Sir T.H. Holland, K.C.I.E., D.Sc., F.R.S., is the volume on the Punjab, North-West Frontier Province and Kashmir by Sir James Douie, M.A., K.C.S.I., of the Punjab Commission. Sir Holland says “no one could more appropriately undertake the tasks of an accurate and well-proportioned thumb-nail sketch of North-West India and, what is specially important to the earnest reader, no author could more obviously delight in his subject.” Indeed, one can agree with the learned editor that the author is obviously living over again the happy 35 which he devoted to the service of North-West India as District Officer, Commissioner, Chief Secretary, and Financial Commissioner.
