Electric power for villagers

MR Sambasiva Iyer, Professor of Geology, Bangalore College, writes in the local Economic Journal about the uses of electric power by the village artisans and agriculturists. He gives a list of water-falls in the state which can be utilised to generate from 10 to 50 horse-power energy sufficient to serve village purposes, and as there are numerous hill streams in the state these can be used for small factories. He also mentions same of the industries that can be started with advantage. But it is more than doubtful whether in the present state of education and enlightenment people in the villages can utilise electric power in the way suggested.
