Extension of Trial by Jury.

THE other day we drew attention to the order issued by the Government of Bombay extending the trial by jury in sessions cases to two more districts of Presidency and to Karachi. We wish to see the Punjab Government also move in this direction and establish trial by jury in Lahore and Amritsar. In this connection we read that a resolution will be moved at the next meeting of the Bengal Legislative Council to be held on the 13th instant by one of the Hon’ble members recommending “that the system of trial by jury be extended to all those districts in Bengal in which it is not at present in force. Also that: This Council recommends to the Governor in Council that the special jury system, as contemplated by sub-section (2) of section 269 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, be extended to all those districts in Bengal in which it is not at present in force.”
