Hindu Religious Plays

IN connection with the movement against the staging of Hindus religious plays by professional theatrical companies, a public meeting of Hindus had been convened by Lala Gopal Chand, Secretary, Hindu Sabha, Lala Kashi Ram Khosla and others to be held at Haveli Nikain Maidan on Tuesday, the 25th July at 6 p.m. On Tuesday forenoon, the following order was issued by Mr. H.P. Tollinton, I.C.S., District Magistrate, Lahore, and served on the leading organizers:

ORDER UNDER 144, C.P.C.

As  a meeting is to be held to protest against certain plays shown by Mr. Khataw, which plays I have stopped and as this meeting is likely to cause a mob, I order that meeting advertised for 6 p.m. on 25th July 1916 and organized by Gopal Chand, Secretary, Hindu Sabha, Kashi Ram Khosla and others be not held. This order is under 144,C.P.C.
