India and the Labour Party

MR. E.L. Iyer who went to England with Mr. J. Baptista has just returned to India. An account of his impressions of British opinion about the future of India is published the latest issue of Young India. It would appear that the presentation of more Indians to counteract the work of Lord Sydenham and others is most urgent at present as the British people are anxious to know the truth about India and exercise their influence in the future settlement of the country. The Labour Party, said Mr. Iyer, was "prepared to apply in the case of India the same principles of self-determination as in be case of Ireland, Poland or other of the small or weaker nationalities of Europe." The labour leaders were surprised at the modest claims put forward by the Congress-League scheme. Under these circumstances it would be most damaging to India if the Sydenham party were allowed to misrepresent India.
