Indian commercial interests

Outside of the Punjab Indians have learnt to combine for the advancement of common interests. As an instance in point we may mention the steady growth in influence and power of the South Indian Chamber of Commerce. This institution was founded after the reformed councils came into existence. Within this short time it has secured for itself an established position. The Government of Madras was nominating its members as members of Port Trust and when the Port Trust Act was lately amended Government recognized the justice of placing representation on a statutory basis and accordingly provided for the election of two of the Trustees by the South Indian Chamber of Commerce. At the annual general meeting which was held, the President, Rao Bahadur P. Thesgaraja Chettar, acknowledge the recognition thus accorded by the Government to the representation on the Municipal Corporation when the Municipal Act was next amended.
