Indian soldiers in France and Belgium

AT Tuesday's meeting of the Imperial Legislative Council the Hon. Raja Jai Chand requested the issue of a list specifying the regimental numbers assigned to those Indian soldiers in France and Belgium who are reported to be missing and asked whether the existing regulations for the grant of pensions to widows and children of Indian soldiers killed in the battlefield applied also to soldiers who were reported to be missing. In reply his Excellency the Commander-In-Chief said: - "List of Indian soldiers reported to be missing are sent to deposits for communication to the families concerned. In view of the liability to changes in reports I do not consider it desirable to publish the list suggested by Hon'ble Raja Jai Chand. Under section 136, Chapters VII to XVI, Field Service Regulations, and a special Indian Army order issued by moon the 4th December a court of enquiry is held whenever officers and soldiers are reported missing to collect all evidence of the circumstance of each case.
