Indigenous Industries

A PRESS note issued by the Bombay Government on the 18th instant announces the abolition of the Indigenous Industries Committee appointed in October 1915 and the creation of an Advisory Committee to the Director of Industries, consisting of the principal merchants and industrial magnates. It is stated that the work of the new Committee will be to assist Government with advise and suggestions in matters relating to the development of indigenous industries. The appointment of a Director at the head of a newly created department indicates that the Government is going to adopt an active programme of promoting indigenous industries. The advisory board is certainly capable of making useful suggestions but it rests with the Government to fully utilise the service of the Committee. We hope it will not share the fate of Excise Advisory Committees.
