Marathi literary conference

IT is a welcome sign of progress that literary conferences are being held in all provinces, the Punjab alone being expected. We have had the Hindi Conference, the Bengalee Literary Conference, the Telugu and Tamil Conferences of Madras and the Marathi and Gujarati Conferences of Bombay. But neither an Urdu nor a Punjabi Literary Conference seems to have been held in the Punjab and the wider interest of literature progress in other provinces do. On the 16th instant, the 8th Marathi Literary Conferences was held at Madhev Bag, Bombay, under the presidency of Sir Gangadhar Rao, Chief of Miraj, Senior. This Brahman chief is in many respects an ideal ruler and encourages literature and industrial arts by personal efforts, he himself being an expert in various arts.
