Our Forest Wealth

IT is clear from Sir Robert Carlye's observations that the Government of India have in view a fuller and more profitable utilisation of the resources in raw materials which we posses in our forests. Except for a couple of experiments lately of turpentine, precious little has been done to employ economics products for the development of industries. It is interesting to compare our own activity in this direction with those of Mysore. In that State a sandalwood oil factory has been established under the direct official control and a tram line is proposed to be constructed to facilitate the transport of sandalwood from forests to the factory.
