Restaurants and Foodstuffs

THE Bombay Corporation at a meeting held on Tuesday last adopted the suggestion by one of its members that the Commissioner should be requested to report what steps should be taken to remedy the existing state of lack of control over the sale of foodstuffs and drugs and proper inspection of hotels, restaurants and boarding houses. It was explained that the latter were in a most insanitary condition and no efficient control existed. Adulterated and unwholesome foodstuffs were sold in the bazaars without any check and no steps were taken to inspect and punish the tradesman who did that. Bombay, as the leading Municipality in India, ought to set an example in this matter.
