Supremely Misleading

"Anarchy in Bengal" is the heading under which the local Anglo-Indian journal publishes an extract from the Bengal Administration Report. The extract itself shows that the situation in Bengal has, if anything, improved. As a matter fact, there were, in all, 24 crimes of murder of dacoity attributed to the anarchists as against 36 in the previous year. No sensible or patriotic Indian can have any feeling for these crimes except that of abhorrence and detestation, but surely nothing could be more absurd than to say that a province of 15 million souls is in a state of anarchy because within the space of twelve months there have been committed within its borders 24 crimes attributed to anarchists! We do not think these misleading and flaring headlines are in any way helpful to the administration or the cause of law and order.
