The Influence of Art on Life

THE All-India Music Conference held at Baroda recently deserves more than a passing notice, and thanks are due to H.H. the Maharaja for its inception. The main questions which engaged the attention of the delegates were:--

1.  A system of notation suitable for the whole of India. 

2.  The placing on a systematic basis the Hindustani music in the matter of its ragas.

3.  The question whether the Indian gamut of 12 notes is sufficient for practical purposes in enunciating all ragas commonly in vogue.

4.  The debatable question as regards the vibration-value of certain notes.

5.  The introduction of musical training in the schools.
