The Law of Land Assessment.

AT a meeting of the Central Provinces Legislative Council held at Nagpur on Monday, several important amendments proposed by popular representatives to the Land Revenue Amendment Bill, were negated by official opposition. What the nature of these amendments was will be seen from the fact that one aimed at limiting increments in assessment to the value of land and profits and another to claim exemption from assessment for improvements effected by landlord or tenant. These are extremely moderate and reasonable demands of revenue, but the officials made a firm stand against the amendments. The Hon’ble Mr. Dwyer, speaking on behalf of the Government, said it was better to leave exemptions for land improvements to be settled by official instructions so that the policy of encouraging such improvements are systematically followed.
