Act I

The seemingly unstoppable behemoth was shaken. The disapprovals that it had arrogantly disregarded were finally catching up with it and causing a dent where it hurt the most – the sales figures. The Galaxy S5 hadn’t been dubbed a complete flop but the sales numbers were not encouraging.

Even though Samsung cashed in on the Android momentum and was selling twice as many phones as Apple thanks to its philosophy of carpet bombing the market with Galaxy devices of every size, shape, price imaginable – the common denominator of every single product it came up with was the tacky design and materials.

Act II

It was late last year that Samsung finally began to get its act together — launching the Galaxy Alpha. With its sleek lines and sharp, angled edges — it barely felt like a Samsung phone save for the recognisable prominent oblong Home button.

And now, finally with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge that long-running quest for a Samsung phone that can hold its own on all fronts has finally come to an end. Today with the S6 and S6 Edge in the market, Samsung has brought its game to HTC’s backyard and also thrown a worthy challenge to Apple.

Forged in metal and glass, the superglossy S6 twins are beautiful to look at and hold. The edges are sharp and confident, the body is smooth and cool to the touch and they are lighter than you would imagine. The S6 Edge goes one step further with a display that curves down from both its side, lending a truly one-of-a-kind class to the big bold phone. It can be safely said that not only is the S6 Edge the more prodigious of two phones but it is also a milestone – a rare one that doesn’t come every year.

On the insides, the two phones are equally exceptional. An eight-core processor, 3 GB of RAM, a 5.1-inch quad HD display, two 16 MP and 5 MP cameras, Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, IR, accelerometer, barometer, heart rate monitor, finger print reader – they have it all. The only things Samsung has given up in this year’s models are expandable storage and a removable battery. But it has 128 GB versions of both the phones and a turbo charger that can fill 4 hours’ worth of juice in just 10 minutes.

Act III

With the new exteriors and the design and build gap almost closed, comparing the two most popular families of smartphones is now easier.

On the price versus specifications list, Apple has never once managed to outdo any competitor since the 1980s. Comparing the S6 duo to the iPhone 6 pair, this becomes as evident as ever.

The difference begins with the richer and denser display that Samsung has to offer. At 1440 x 2560 pixels with 577 ppi, the Galaxy S6 beats the 1,334 x 750 pixel and 377 ppi iPhone display by a mile, producing sharper text and breath-taking visuals. Though the iPhone captures more saturated images, the Galaxy S6 camera captures more detail in its photos and also shoots 4K video. The Galaxy can be turned into a universal remote or answering phone calls with a wave when your hands are dirty or pausing video playback when you look away. Even the standard fingerprint sensor and the comparable battery deliver better on the Samsung.

Succinctly put, for Team Android the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are almost like two pieces of extra-strong tape that will shut their Apple friends up.
