It’s no secret that Balmain is at the pricier end of the spectrum when it comes to investing in luxury brands — making the high-street collaboration with H&M last year even more appealing. Recently, the French house headed by designer Olivier Rousteing has announced a new string to its bow — childrenswear. The debut collection consists of 55 styles for children aged between 6 and 14 year-old and there’s no mistaking the brand with the pieces all heavily following Balmain’s trademark style.
“These are the same looks that, over the years, moms and dads have repeatedly pleaded with me to produce for their kids” explains Rousteing. So what exactly does that entail — think monochrome tuxedo jackets, oversized button-detail blazers, military-rope outerwear and even a fur coat. As one would expect, these pieces will set you back a pretty penny — starting in price from £145 for a t-shirt and going up to a staggering £4,175 for an embroidered dress.
“We’re excited to bring Balmain’s unique style to a new, younger customer, while guaranteeing to their parents the type of quality and craftsmanship that can only come from an historic Paris house. I know for certain that I am going to be hearing from quite a few pleased parents once this news is made public!” Commented Emmanuel Diemoz, Balmain CEO.
The collection hits stores and online in June, and will be available on balmain.com. — The Independent
