Let the walls smile

Bored of those dull walls? Why not give them a little makeover? But, hey, we are not suggesting easy ways out such as wallpapers and paints, it is high time you brought your creative sense into play and added character to your house. Here are some tips:

One at a time

Wall art looks great when you highlight a single wall, whether it is your bedroom or living room. If you wish to accentuate a bedroom wall, the combination of trees and birds is often recommended by design experts. For the living room, a landscape or a portrait would be better.

Touch of metal

Copper, bronze, silver, gold… Metallic accent can do wonders to spice up a wall. Create a gallery of copper or brass pieces and see how they add personality to the room. And if you can do it according to a theme, even better!

Flower power

Bring a cheery feel with floral designs on your wall. Painting the flowers in pastel hues is a good idea. Or make some wreaths using natural stuff such as dry flowers, pinecones, coconut shells and twigs. You can accessorise the wreaths with pretty things like beads, ribbons, etc.

Experiment

You could also go bold with textures. Venetian plaster is a good choice as it gives a slightly multi-dimensional look to the wall. Or go for graining effect, which can be easily managed with a tool specifically for the purpose.

brick by brick

Sometimes, a brick wall is all that you need for that makeover. It is a multidimensional entity and could well be your canvas to try out various ideas. Memorabilia, souvenirs, greeting cards, everything looks good on it. You could also place wooden accents of contrasting shades along the wall. Combined with industrial lighting, a brick wall transforms the entire space.

Personal touch

When we say personal touch, we mean ‘you’ all the way. And how do you do that? Go for a pin-up board with pictures of you and your family or just some personal notes to complete the look and personalise your space.

Let your taste reflect

Create a lobby replete with frames and photographs of the same or varied size. You must try to place them in a cohesive manner so that they don’t look haphazard. Let one wall be covered with mirrors having pretty frames. Let these reflect the room’s vibrant pieces and see a breezy air to the otherwise drab wall.

Iconic wallpaper

Wallpapers can leave a major aesthetic impact on your space, depending on colour, style and texture you choose. For a decor that symoblises a contemporary theme, wallpapers in bold patterns and colours should be chosen. Contrastingly, the one to your right gives an earthy feel to the bedroom.
