Google and MIT have joined forces to defeat one of photography’s great irritants: window reflections.

To win over a generation of budding digital photographers, the internet giant and elite scientific institute have developed an algorithm that gets rid of unwanted visual elements in an image.

By using framing from a short video to separate the foreground from the background, you can scrap practically any kind of visual obstruction — from rain drops to chain link fences. Best of all, the technique can capture a clear image of any reflection. The algorithm isn’t yet available on any devices you can buy, but you can bet it will soon feature on an Android phone. Instagrammers everywhere thank you. — The Independent
