Dehradun, Kedarnath, Srikot and Uttarkashi will now be part of the Namami Ganga Action Plan. This was announced on Wednesday during the tripartite consultancy meeting on Namami Ganga Project. Earlier, these cities and towns were not part of the Ganga action plan.

With the inclusion, the activities like construction of STPs, strengthening of sewerage systems and construction of ghats will gather pace.

DG of National Mission for Clean Ganga Rajiv Ranjan, who was also present during the meeting, also agreed to include the remaining sewerage plan of Haridwar under the Ganga Action Plan.

Further, Chief Minister TS Rawat who chaired the meeting directed the District Magistrates to constitute a task force that would ensure that there was complete ban on the use of plastic and polythene. Emphasis was also laid on the regular meetings of Swachh Samitis. The samitis have been constituted to ensure that the Ganga remains clean and are active in seven districts.

The Chief Minister also asked them to scrutinise the implementation of the Swachh Bharat on every Monday of the month. A deadline of December 2018 has been set for completing the construction of STPs and sewerage system under the Ganga Namami project. Out of the 31 STPs sanctioned for the cities around 13 are complete.
