Haridwar, December 9

A batch of 148 pilgrims, all Pakistan nationals, reached Roorkee today for paying obeisance at the world-famous dargah Piran Kaliyar. This year 748th Urs of renowned Sufi Saint Hazrat Syed Alauddin Ahmed Sabir are being observed.

The Urs celebration dates back to 200 years ago and Muslims as well as Hindus pay obeisance in large numbers annually.

Lakhs of pilgrims arrive from across the world to take part in these Urs, organised at Sabir Dargah at the Piran Kaliyar shrine in Roorkee town of Haridwar district in Uttarakhand.

The Pakistani zayarins arrived by the Lahori Express at the Roorkee railway station, where they were received by Pakistani embassy officials, Piran Kaliyar Mela administrative officials and organising committee members.

A heavy deployment of security personnel was done at the railway station as well as the entire route till Sabri guesthouse, where these Pakistani pilgrims will be staying till December 15.

Four officials of the religious affairs department of the Pakistani Government are also accompanying the zayarins.

Protocol official of the New Delhi-based Pakistani embassy Sajjad Ahmed has been appointed as protocol officer for this pilgrimage of Pakistani zayarins.

Pakistani zayarins group team leader Lahore-based Noor-ul-Hassan said peace, love, brotherhood and harmony should prevail between India and Pakistan so that both nations gel together for a peaceful and stronger sub-continent.

Zayarins evaded media questions on the surgical strikes by the Indian Army last month and on Pakistan-based terrorist groups.

As per Roorkee Joint Magistrate Mayur Dixit, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place for the Pakistani zayarins at the Sabri guesthouse and during their visit to the Piran Kaliyar shrine. Central and state intelligence sleuths are also deployed at Piran Kaliyar.

Dargah manager Aarif Rashid said best arrangements had been put in place for the Pakistani zayarins so that their pilgrimage and stay was comfortable.
