The 7th Terry Fox run or “The Marathon Of Hope” held here yesterday saw a record turnout of more than 2,750 participants.
The marathon was flagged off by Maj-Gen Balraj Mehta VSM, GOC, Uttarakhand Sub Area from the Doon School. Gurmeet Singh, chairman of the Indo Canadian Cancer Research Foundation, welcomed the participants and said Terry Fox ran a distance of 5,373 km in 142 days, an average between Delhi and Noida everyday on one leg to create awareness about cancer.
Matthew Raggett, head master of the The Doon School, said he had seen this marathon happen in many countries around the world. Consular officials from the High Commission of Canada to India — Bernie, Adrian, Laura and Mike – were also present. Boys and girls, men and women of all age groups, children on roller skates and even some on wheel chairs were seen participating. Students of more than 27 prominent schools of Dehradun participated in the annual marathon run.
