3 close kin arrested

Three close relatives of Rohit, who died in a hospital after being administered poison, were arrested by Dehradun police. The accused were sent to 15-day judicial custody for their alleged involvement in administering of some poisonous substance to the glucose drip of seriously ill Rohit in a private hospital, which led to his death.

The owner of the hospital, Dr Ashutosh Kumar, had checked the hospital’s CCTV footage to know the reason behind the death of the patient as he had died under suspicious circumstances despite the fact that he had been recuperating fast. Rohit was admitted at the hospital on March 20 in a serious condition.

Dr Kumar called the police after the patient was killed by relatives of the deceased.

According to him, the CCTV footage has captured the images of three relatives of Rohit injecting some poisonous substance through syringe into the glucose drip being administered to him.

He alleged that colour of glucose had changed after some poisonous substance was injected into the glucose bottle.

SSP Pushpak Jyoti said Rohit’s two uncles Vicky and Mukesh and brother-in-law Praveen were arrested in connection with the murder. The police scanned the CCTV footage obtained from the hospital and confirmed that the trio was behind the murder. He said investigating teams were working on every aspect to find the main reason behind the murder.

It is prima facie believed that all the three accused had killed him to inherit the property of the deceased. The police said the father of the deceased had died a while ago, leaving to him property worth crores of rupees.

Sources said Rohit intended to marry a particular woman and his family members including his mother were opposed to the marriage. It was revealed during preliminary investigation that the trio had earlier attempted to kill Rohit by mixing some poisonous substance into liquor which they were consuming at his home on March 19. Rohit was admitted to the private hospital by his mother in the wake of his deteriorating condition.

Police sources said the investigating team will make inquiries of Rohit’s mother and his fiancee as their role had also been found to be suspicious.
