The city police conducted a two-week intense vehicle checking drive to reduce road accidents in the city. The city police laid special focus on traffic offenders as 782 persons were issued challans.
As per directives issued by SSP Sweety Agarwal, the police identified areas where maximum cases of accidents were reported on the outskirts of the city. A joint team of city and traffic police, city patrol unit and interceptors were deployed on the outskirts of the city.
The police recovered Rs 77,900 as penalty from those found guilty of violating traffic rules and regulations. A total of 782 persons were challaned for breaking traffic rules under different categories. One hundred and one persons were challaned under the Motor Vehicle Act, while 22 vehicles were seized during the drive. The police imposed penalty on 660 persons for violating different traffic rules.
SP Traffic Dheerandra Gunjyal said special focus was laid to check rash or negligent driving, over speeding, jumping red light, driving two-wheeler without helmet and without seat belt. He said the drive would be continued in the future.
