Tehri District Magistrate Yugal Kishore Pant today launched the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme in the district and distributed more than 20 health cards to beneficiaries.

Pant, while addressing a gathering at a function held at the Zila Panchayat auditorium in New Tehri, said the scheme would benefit economically poor and backward families of the district.

He said Harish Rawat had launched the scheme in the larger interest of people living in the far-flung areas and who lack adequate healthcare facilities. The scheme aimed at providing healthcare to all members of families.

He said under the scheme, the state government would bear the treatment cost of critically ill patients. The government would provide a health cover of Rs 50,000 to patients covered under the scheme. However, in case of death, next of kin of the deceased would be given Rs 70,000.

He said nearly 9,500 persons from the district would benefit from the scheme. The DM said it was being ensured that all beneficiaries received health insurance cards. He said those who had not been included in the scheme would be given the benefit after they submitted necessary documents and details.

Chief Medical Officer, Tehri, Dr Arjun Singh said the target of providing health insurance cards to all beneficiaries would be achieved by May 10. He thanked Asha workers for their assistance in the scheme.

Deputy CMO, Tehri, Sanjay Jain said 92,548 people had filled the forms for availing the benefits. He said the data entry of 81,891 persons had been completed and 7,500 cards had been received by the Health Department. He said the cards would soon be distributed to the beneficiaries.

Municipal Council, New Tehri, president Umesh Charan Gusain, block pramukh, Chamba, Anandi Negi, PR of Tourism Minister Balbir Negi and Zila Panchayat member Beena Sajwan attended the function.
