Dehradun, February 21

Within a span of six months, another incident of chlorine gas leakage took place on the Rajpur road-situated water works unit of the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan in Dehradun. The timely action prevented the mishap, this time.

The foul smell emanating due to the leakage of chlorine gas from a cylinder led to commotion at the water works. However, the cylinder was immediately removed by some prompt officials and thrown into water, thus preventing occurrence of any mishap.

In August last year, a similar incident had taken place at the same water works unit resulting in several people being taken ill.

However, senior Jal Sansthan officials held that the leakage was from one of the empty cylinders kept in the store room. They also held that the water works was not using chlorine, now. The matter was also being probed.
