The BJP has taken a lead over its rivals in filing the nomination papers from the Gangotri and Yamnotri Assembly segments while Congress is yet to come out with its list of candidates.

BJP candidates from the Gangotri and Yamnotri seats —Gopal Singh Rawat and Kedar Singh Rawat— today filed their nomination papers amid tight security in the special cells made for their respective constituencies at the Uttarkashi district administration office.

The two reached the nomination center along with their four proposers and completed the formality within one hour.

Elated BJP candidate from Yamnotri, Kedar Singh Rawat, said it was a homecoming as he started his career in politics with the BJP. Rawat said he had been making efforts to develop his constituency for the past several decades but indifferent attitude and neglect shown by the present government and especially Chief Minister Harish Rawat led him to leave the Congress and join the BJP. The BJP was quick in reposing faith in me and granting the Yamnotri seat. Rawat said he would play a role of facilitator in bringing the public benefit schemes being run by the BJP government at the Centre to the doorsteps of the people of his constituency.

BJP’s Gangotri candidate Gopal Rawat said people were disgusted with the Rawat government and were ready to give a befitting reply in the coming elections. He said the disaster relief fund scam, development of roads would be the main issues on which the party would corner the state Congress government and its sitting MLA. The supporters of both Kedar Rawat and Gopal Rawat distributed sweets on the occasion and both candidates sought votes in the market of Uttarkashi.
