Senior BJP leader Matbar Singh Kandari today said the preoccupation of Chief Minister Harish Rawat with the ongoing CBI case was costing the state dear.

“The Chief Minister is unable to pay attention to people’s problems. The example of the raging forest fire is before us. The Harish Rawat government has failed to contain it. A committee should have been formed to look into all the aspects of forest fire and how it can be contained,” said Kandari at a press conference.

He said, “When I was a minister in the BJP government and handling the forest department, a decision was taken to involve the gram panachayats and van sarpanch in containing and controlling forest fire.”

Kandari said Chief Minister Harish Rawat appeared to be a worried man due to the CBI probe. “Why is he behaving in this fashion? Off-course he is worried that the CBI will nail him in the sting video case,” he said.

Kandari refused to comment on the entry of Congress rebel Harak Singh Rawat in the BJP. In the last Assembly election, Kandari had suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Harak Singh Rawat in the Rudraprayag Assembly segment.
