DEHRADUN:Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has said the solar energy will be a major source of income for Uttarakhand in the days to come.

Dehradun, April 21

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has said the solar energy will be a major source of income for Uttarakhand in the days to come.

The Chief Minister was addressing the gathering after inaugurating 100 mega watt solar power plant at Bhalsavagaaj village in Bhagwanpur tehsil of Haridwar district today.     The nation plans to generate one lakh mega watt of green energy and Uttarakhand too wants to contribute in  a big way, he said.

Rawat said within a year and six months time, solar projects to the tune of 150 mega watt would be allotted to the state. This would lead to creation of employment opportunities for as many as 2,500 people. He said with the decrease in area of agriculture land, it was important to ensure value addition to the available agricultural land.

Haridwar MP  Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said the setting up of a solar plant at Bhalsavagaaj would give impetus to the development in the entire Haridwar region.

The Chief Minister also took opportunity to direct Haridwar District Magistrate to immediate conduct the survey for damages caused to the crops in the Haridwar district during recent hailstorms. He also directed for ensuring timely payment to sugarcane farmers in the district.—TNS
