Dehradun, December 22
The high-altitude areas of Uttarakhand are reeling under piercing cold wave conditions. The mercury further dipped after light to moderate rain lashed high-altitude areas of the state.
The temperature stayed between 2°C and -4°C in most of the state’s cities. The sudden drop in mercury has resulted in intense cold wave conditions in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of the state. Fresh cold winds were experienced by residents.
State Meteorological Centre director Anand Sharma said rains lashed different cities of the state due to western disturbances. He said the weather will start improving from Tuesday onwards.
Sharma said the state will continue to experience cold wave situations and the mercury is likely to dip further in the coming days.
The latest data compiled by the meteorological centre clearly highlighted that the minimum temperature recorded in Dehradun was 4.6°C, while Haridwar and Uttarkashi recorded 4.5°C and 5°C respectively.
The cold and foggy weather in northern areas of the country has affected train schedules, especially for those coming from New Delhi, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. Most of the trains were delayed by three to four hours. There was an adverse affect on departure of trains.
Passengers have been facing trouble due to the delay when it comes to long-distance trains and the situation has remained unchanged over the past few days.
