Dehradun, November 18

The shifting of the Collectorate to a new place is in sight with the preliminary discussions favouring it’s shifting at the nearby Roadways Workshop.

Located in 51 bigha, the Collectorate encompasses several district offices, including offices of DM, SDM, city magistrates, Treasury, SP (city) office, Post Office, Civil Court and other district-level offices. Due to the poor condition of several offices the demand for shifting the premises had been raised by the District Magistrates in the past. Now, it may be possible as part of the Smart City project. Officials claim preliminary discussions have already taken place and the proposal will be put before the high-powered committee for the Smart City project for approval.

In the past, several proposals were drafted to bring all district offices under one roof by shifting the Collectorate to a new place, but these did not take a final shape. The proposal has been included in the Smart City project. During the recent meeting, S Murugashan, District Magistrate, Dehradun, had proposed utilising the Roadways Workshop land for housing the Collectorate building.

The MDDA had suggested that the workshop land be utilised for a park or a parking lot.
