Committee formed for coop farming

DEHRADUN: The state government today constituted a seven member expert committee to prepare policy/ working guidelines for introducing contract/lease/cooperative farming in the state.

The state government today constituted a seven member expert committee to prepare policy/ working guidelines for introducing contract/lease/cooperative farming in the state.

The committee will be headed by Secretary Horticulture S Pandiyan and will have experts from the horticulture and other fields.

The members will focus on framing guidelines for promoting cultivation of herbs and tea in the state, which in turn is expected to curb migration of the youth.

Further, the government also constituted another expert committee, comprising of seven members, for ensuring the quality of planting material in the state nurseries. The committee will be headed by Director Horticulture Dr BS Negi. The recommendations by the committee will form the basis for promoting good planting material for farmers, setting up tissue culture laboratories etc for the benefit of the farmers. Later the government will enact a comprehensive Bill.
