Governor KK Paul today held a meeting with THDC and PWD officials at Raj Bhawan, Nainital, and instructed them to take necessary steps to check the soil erosion being caused by the Nihal nullah, which flows near the golf course of Raj Bhawan, Nainital.

He said the work should be completed without delay as the monsoon season was about to begin. He said raw materials should be checked and a pre-dispatch inspection report/ third party inspection report must be ensured before the treatment began. The Governor said a time schedule must be presented before starting the work and a deadline must be fixed to end the work. This would help in the monitoring of the progress and quality of the work at the local level by officials. He said a penalty clause would be implemented if the work was not done within schedule while conforming to norms.

He said if trees had to be planted to help check soil erosion, it must be first understood which trees and plants should be planted. General Manager of the THDC informed the Governor that within a week, the treatment work would start. Topographical and geological surveys had been completed and the design for treatment had been prepared in accordance with these.

Last year in July, the Governor had a meeting with THDC and PWD experts at Raj Bhawan to resolve the problem of soil erosion being caused by the nullah. It was decided that the PWD would supervise the work which would be implemented by the THDC.

Present at today’s meeting were Secretary to the Governor Arun Dhaundiyal, Kumaon Commissioner AS Nyal, PWD Chief Engineer BS Binwal, DS Nabiyal (SE), executive engineer SK Pandey, assistant engineer (Raj Bhawan) DS Basnal, THDC GM (design) Rajiv Vishnoi, Deputy Manager (THDC) Avkesh Kumar and other officials.
