Dehradun, February 19
The Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) yesterday decided to extend the date for paying house tax till March 31. The relief in the deadline has been given to the owners of commercial as well as residential properties as officials were earlier busy with election duties.
The DMC had started collecting house tax in December last year. After repeated reminders, the process of tax collection was stopped on January 31.
The DMC has collected house tax from only 65,000 residential properties against the 1.25 lakh registered properties. The collected amount is Rs 5.25 crore, which is far less against the projected collection. The DMC has sent bills to only 3,000 against 20,000 registered commercial property owners and collected only Rs 1.75 crore from them.
Sources say the DMC has set a target of Rs 15 crore of tax from the residential and commercial property owners in the city —TNS
