Mussoorie, September 27

Supporters of the Congress and the BJP nearly came to blows during a talk show hosted by a local electronic channel at Mussoorie on Tuesday.

The situation turned ugly when people posed questions to local MLA Ganesh Joshi and Congress leaders Jot Singh Gunsola, Municipal Council president Manmohan Singh Mall Billo Thapli and Gidavari Thapli. The supporters from both parties got agitated at the questions and blamed each other for the situation.

The situation became ugly and supporters had heated exchanges and were nearly came to blows in front of a large audience that had come to express their resentment.

Shailendar Bisht said leaders of both parties had done nothing for Mussoorie and were trying to take credit unnecessarily. They should have tried to pacify their supporters and not disrupt the programme in such a manner.

Senior citizens, who had come to watch the programme, said such a behaviour in front of mediapersons was disgraceful.

A Congress supporter said Joshi, who is accused of beating police horse Shakitman and was involved in a verbal spat with Manmohan Mall over hoisting the National Flag, should be prohibited from contesting the Assembly elections.

On the other hand, Joshi’s supporters said it was Congress leader Upendar Thapli who created a ruckus and made derogatory remarks against Joshi that lead to unsavoury scenes. Local police station in charge KS Namboori rushed to the spot. Congress leader Bharosi Rawat said Joshi got angry when people started asking him about the works done in the Assembly constituency here. No permission was taken for the programme and as such adequate police were not deployed at venue.

A local television channel was running a public debate at a hotel here when the incident occurred.
