Farmers and political parties have condemned the Aam Aadmi Party for its insensitivity in the New Delhi protest march in which a peasant committed suicide.
A protest was held at Alaknanda Ghat by Congress party activists. They demanded the filing of a case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and party leader Kumar Vishwas for showing insensitivity towards peasant Gajendra Singh, who hung himself during the AAP protest march.
Burning posters of Kejriwal, Congress activists said that real face of AAP had been revealed with this Jantar Mantar incident when the leaders carried on with their speeches despite the suicide at the spot. Congress leader Sanjay Chopra demanded the filing of case against AAP leaders and a written apology from Kejriwal. Chopra said AAP was pretending to be pro-peasant by holding a march against the Land Acquisition Bill and demanding compensation for peasants affected due to the untimely rain.
He also cornered the BJP for playing politics over this case as the Delhi police didn’t stop the farmer from committing the suicide.
Chopra said: “In fact both the BJP and AAP are playing with the sentiments of the peasants. The BJP-led NDA government has not uttered a word on the role of the Delhi police, which comes under the Union Home Ministry.
Congress city unit president OP Chauhan said compensation should be given to the farmers and long-term social welfare schemes initiated to ensure that such acts are not repeated.
