Uttarakhand Congress is all set to take to social media in a big way to counter BJP’s challenge in run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

From day one, the Congress has found itself wanting on social media front even as the BJP has always utilised this platform to its benefit.

The Congress party think tank now believes that adequate presence in social media was important for it to highlight the anti-people programmes of both state and the Central BJP governments.

Reminding that it was late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who ushered in IT revolution in the country, Uttarakhand Congress president Pritam Singh has asserted that it was strange that Congress was failing to take advantage of information technology in its day to day publicity initiatives.

He said social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and Instagram can also be a medium to address the problems confronting the people.

Leader of Opposition and Senior Congress leader Indira Hridayesh too has been laying stress on strengthening of Information technology cell in the Congress.

She said it was important to publicise party’s policies and programmes and social media was an effective tool for it.

Congress national IT cell coordinator Ruchira Chaturvedi, who had come to Dehradun to sensitise Congress workers on significance of social media platform, argued that it was important for Congress workers to give befitting reply to the BJP’s false propaganda in social media through the very same platform. She said the youth in the Congress has to reply to BJP false publicity stunts in social media being in discipline.

Interestingly, only some time back former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat had admitted that the BJP had an upper hand vis-a-vis Congress in the Facebook and Twitter battle and had called upon the Congress workers to become more active in the social media.

“When I post something of our achievements on social media, hundreds of BJP men can be seen belittling through their false propaganda but there are few among Congress who defend it amply revealing that we are losing to the BJP in social media”, Harish Rawat had said few months before last Assembly elections in the state, which Congress lost.

Facebook, Twitter battle

Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat had recently admitted that the BJP had an upper hand vis-a-vis Congress in the Facebook and Twitter battle and had called upon the Congress workers to become more active in the social media. The Congress party think tank now believes that adequate presence in social media was important for it to highlight the anti-people programmes of both state and the Central BJP governments.
