Uttarakhand Congress president Kishore Upadhyay has said party activists would hold a protest at Har-ki-Pauri in Haridwar on January 29 to pressure the BJP-led Central government to bring back black money stashed in foreign nations. He was addressing mediapersons at Rajeev Bhawan here today.

He said yoga guru Ramdev should clear his stand with regard to the Union government, which had failed to bring back black money from foreign nations.

Upadhyay said the BJP had failed to keep its promise. The Union government was yet to take steps to fulfil the promises made in its manifesto for the last parliamentary elections. The BJP was voted to power at the Centre as its activists misguided voters, and campaigned against the Congress in the previous parliamentary elections, he added.

Upadhyay demanded reduction in the prices of petroleum products in commensurate with the fall in the prices of crude oil in the international market. He said the Central government had not passed on the entire benefit of the fall in crude prices to consumers.

The Congress activists were directed to sensitise people about the adverse policies of the Union government.

Party activists remind Modi of 100-day deadline

Haridwar: The Congress on Tuesday staged a protest demanding stance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and yoga guru Swami Ramdev over delay in bringing back black money, stacked in foreign banks.

Led by veteran leader Sanjay Chopra, party activists carrying placards urged Narendra Modi to live up to his 100-day time limit of bringing back black money.

Similarly, questions were sought from yog guru Swami Ramdev that prior to Lok Sabha elections last year, the seer had carried out meetings, generating awareness about black money under Bharat Swabhiman Trust-run camps.

“But now his silence over black money issue is only affecting his credibility. Swamiji portrayed BJP government as the one which will deal clearly and in timebound manner regarding black money issue, but now seven months have passed and there is no solid action,” stated Chopra.

City Congress president OP Chauhan lashed out at the BJP for “coming to power by luring voters with false promises.”

Citing BJP-led NDA government’s failure to bring back black money in 60 days, Chauhan said the BJP lacked commitment and accountability.

Ramdevji initiated kala dhan vapas lao campaign bring black money drive, accusing Congress of not revealing the names then. He supported the then BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi, stating that within 100 days all the names of people having black money in foreign shores will be made public, but now when seven months have passed since BJP came to power, nothing much happened as was hyped by Modi and Ramdevji, he added.

“Where is black money that was to come in every citizen’s account or even the detailed list,” asked Satya Narayan Sharma, city unit leader.
