Mussoorie, April 17

The ongoing sewer-laying project in Mussoorie that is entering its last phase is dogged by a controversy about substandard work done.

Municipal Council members today joined the chorus and questioned the substandard work being done under the project in Mussoorie. The councillors, namely Vinod Semwal, Ramesh Bhandari, Beena Panwar, Arvind Gusain and Rami Devi, met Education and Water Resources Minister Mantri Prasad

Naithani and presented a memorandum highlighting the shoddy work being done under the sewer project in the town.

The councillors alleged that sewer pipelines were being laid in a shoddy manner without following guidelines, causing inconvenience to local residents and tourists. They said they were skeptical about the success of the project due to the shoddy work being done.

They said several sewer chambers had been constructed above the road and some of them had already been damaged due to the apathy of the Peyjal Nigam, the agency handling the project. Councillor Vinod Semwal said pipelines were being laid in uninhabited areas only to benefit some contractors.

The councillors also raised the issue of vacant posts of Education Officer and teachers that were affecting the quality of education in government schools.

Naithani directed the officials concerned to investigate the matter and submit a detailed report. He promised the councillors to fill the posts of Education Officer and teachers soon.
