Members of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (Panwar) held a protest at the District Magistrate’s office here today in support of their demand to declare Uttarakhand a fire disaster-hit state. Protesters sent a copy of the memorandum to the Governor and asked to give a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the fire victims. They alleged that forest fires in the state got worst due to negligence of the Forest Department and demanded to punish the guilty officials.
UKD president Trivendra Panwar said it was the worst forest fire in the history of state in which precious flora and fauna have perished. Victims of this disaster should get compensation without any delay. The Central government should give Rs 10,000 crore for revival of the state.
He slammed the Forest Department for their “carelessness and improper” efforts. He doubted that the disaster could have been created by political parties. He demanded investigation into the matter.
