Maha Shivratri was celebrated with fervour and gaiety at various temples in the city. Devotees in large numbers congregated at temples to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Long queues were seen outside Tapkeshwar Temple since morning. Devotees observe fast, perform puja and offer flowers, fruits, ghee, honey and milk at the temple. Devotees thronged Neelkanth temple, Rishikesh, Daksheshwar Mahadev temple, Tilbhandeshwar temple, Dukhbhanjan temple, Tilbhandeshwar temple at Haridwar.

Meanwhile, additional police force was deployed to avoid any untoward incident. An additional police force was deployed to streamline traffic on arterial roads and busiest inter-crossings of the city. Meanwhile, NGO Mere Sapne Sansthan distributed milk to celebrate Maha Shivratri in the slum areas of Subhash Nagar and ISBT. The NGO members appealed to residents to feed children with milk instead of offering milk at temples.
