As part of the Mission Rishiparna, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat on Saturday led a large number of volunteers, government servants and Dehradun residents towards digging of pits for tree plantation along the bank of the Rispana. The plantation will be carried out in the monsoon.

Addressing a gathering at the Mission Rishiparna launch function at Rajpur in Dehradun, Rawat called upon the youth to work towards rejuvenation of rivers, springs and other water bodies. “Besides reviving two key rivers of the state — Rispana and Kosi — it is our endeavour to ensure that there is a mass movement for conserving its water bodies,” he pointed out. There was a time when rivers like the Rispana and the Kosi had huge volume of water, which was crystal clear, but it was sad that these rivers were now left with little water, which was polluted.  DM SA Murugeshan said 2.5 lakh pits were to be dug up under the mission. He said these pits were to be dug up along the entire stretch of the Rispana. He disclosed that 40 organisations, besides the volunteers, were participating in the mission. He also held that 30 per cent of the total trees planted would be fruit trees.
