Doon police launch intense drive against criminals

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand police have finally started tightening the noose around the necks of antisocial elements in the wake of much-hyped Haldwani six-year-old rape case, and after hardcore western Uttar Pradesh criminal Amit Malik alias Bhura had escaped from police custody in Baghpat last week.

Uttarakhand police have finally started tightening the noose around the necks of antisocial elements in the wake of much-hyped Haldwani six-year-old rape case, and after hardcore western Uttar Pradesh criminal Amit Malik alias Bhura had escaped from police custody in Baghpat last week.

The Dehradun police carried out an intense drive on the second consecutive day today against antisocial elements in the district and put them behind the bars .

The different police stations of Dehradun have registered several cases against goons under different sections of the Arms Act, Excise Act, Code of Criminal Procedure and Gunda Act.

The latest data compiled by Dehradun police clearly highlighted that 44 cases were registered today against antisocial elements in different police stations of the district.

The antisocial elements, who were challaned under Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr PC) tops the tally, which is followed by Gunda Act.

Dehradun police have challaned 26 residents, including five women, for their alleged involvement in antisocial activities. The maximum number of cases (10) against antisocial cases were registered in Rishikesh police station followed Nehru colony and Raipur police stations, respectively.

The Nehru colony police station has booked Sanju, son of Heera Singh, resident of Shiv Nagar, Dehradun, under 3/25 Arms Act after one countrymade pistol with cartridges were recovered from his possession when he was in the process of committing a crime at MDDA shopping complex here today. Another man, Tahir, son of Yadir, resident of Mehuwala, was arrested with one khukhri last night.

Speaking with The Tribune, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, Pushpak Jyoti, cleared that the police will deal strictly with those who try to take law in their hands.

He said that strict action would be also taken against those in charge of police stations who fail to check crime in their respective police stations.

Jyoti said that the police will focus on beat policing and night patrolling in order to check crime in the district.

He said that police constables were told to remain alert round the clock to reduce crime in the district. Jyoti warned that search operations would be carried out in the near future also to apprehend suspected and hardcore criminals.

It is worth mentioning that four police constables were suspended on Thursday after they were found guilty of negligence while transferring hardcore criminals from Sudhuwala jail to court for trail.

With an aim to tightening the noose around the necks of antisocial elements to maintain law and order in the district, Dehradun police registered 56 cases on Thursday. Out of that, 24 and 17 cases werev registered against those who were having criminal minds or were trying to commit some crime.

Additionally, eight cases were also registered under the Excise Act against those who had tried to smuggle countrymade liquor.
