Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul said today that Char Dham Yatra was very important from the point of view of faith and pilgrim tourism. He said care should be taken and all efforts made to awaken confidence in the hearts of people regarding safety of the yatra in the state.

He said support from social welfare organisations, including Rotary, and schools should be taken to make the present plan of action more effective.

He said this was the best time to give out the message “Uttarakhand yatra, safe yatra.”

He said that necessary directions for driving in the accident-prone areas should be put up, crash barriers and parapets, overloading should be strictly checked, hoardings of traffic rules should be put up at prominent places, especially on the yatra routes. He said to enhance awareness regarding traffic rules, messages should be given out through the media.

The governor said a traffic squad should be constituted in schools in which students of senior classes should be trained in traffic rules by the traffic police as this would create awareness. He said that help from such students could be taken in traffic control and road safety. In this context, the governor said that a meeting should be held soon between traffic police officials and principals of schools to prepare an action plan that can be implemented from next week.

The governor gave these directions today during a meeting with IG (Garhwal Range),SSP and SP (Traffic), Dehradun . Rotary District-3080 Governor David Hilton met the governor to discuss about the support that Rotary could plan in the context of road safety in response to the governor’s appeal to Rotary and other social organisations to provide support in this campaign.
