Dehradun, July 6

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Friday reached Haridwar and pledged support of Ganga activist Swami Gyanswaroop Sanand, who has been undertaking fast for the cause of the Ganga. While honouring Swami Sanand, Rawat said the life of Swami Sanand was very important for the nation and his concern for the cause of the Ganga was supreme. He, however, added that a middle path must be chosen in the debate of conservation and development.

He reminded that the efforts for the cause of conservation of the Ganga taken during the UPA government were much more than the incumbent BJP-led Central government. He accused the Modi government of doing just lip service for the cause of the Ganga. Meanwhile, fast untaken by Swami Sanand at Matra Sadan entered the 15th day. A large number of saints from Hardwar turned up at Matra Sadan to pledge support to Swami Sanand, whose main demand includes passage of the Draft Ganga Protection Act in Parliament. — TNS
