Dehradun, May 22

Residents in different parts of the city faced the brunt of frequent power cuts here today. The power cuts lasted three to four hours while those residents who are living in remote areas faced prolonged power cuts.

As per the information available, several cities of Garhwal division faced the brunt of power cuts for nearly three to four hours after technical snags developed on the Rishikesh-Srinagar 132 KV line.

The gap between demand and availability of electricity has widened further after electricity generation in Khodri hydropower project was affected due to tripping of 220 KV Khodri-Saharanpur transmission lines.

The tripping was also reported on 132 sub-station Majjra transmission lines due to overloading, which resulted in prolonged power cuts in different colonies of Dehradun.

Speaking with The Tribune, Madhusudan, an official spokesperson, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), said that UPCL Managing Director SS Yadav shifted load to Bareilly-Kashipur-Rishikesh-Majjra transmission lines through the state load dispatch centre in order to ensure disruption-free electricity to consumers.

He said that demand of electricity was 39.01 million units against availability of 38.28 million units per day in the state. Madhusudan said that UPCL had procured electricity through tenders in order to bridge the gap between and supply of electricity in the state.
