Governor asks PWD to check soil erosion at Raj Bhavan

DEHRADUN: Governor KK Paul held a meeting with PWD officials to take necessary steps to check the damage being caused by soil erosion due to the Nihal nullah, which emerges from the end of the golf course of Raj Bhavan, Nainital, from the Bhandari pavilion.

Governor KK Paul held a meeting with PWD officials to take necessary steps to check the damage being caused by soil erosion due to the Nihal nullah, which emerges from the end of the golf course of Raj Bhavan, Nainital, from the Bhandari pavilion. The Governor instructed them to make a detailed plan with the support of the THDC to find a permanent solution to the problem.

THDC officials were called to the meeting keeping in view their expertise in such a work. The Governor said protective measures were necessary to ensure that the situation remains in control during the monsoon till a permanent solution was arrived at. He gave the THDC officials a week to present a plan of the first phase of the protective work. He directed PWD officials to start the necessary work during the monsoon itself.

The Governor during a visit to Raj Bhavan on May 27 inspected the area, which is sensitive to soil erosion. He decided to take help from the THDC to find a permanent solution to the problem, which residents of Rusi village near the Nihal nullah had brought to their notice. The nullah is also posing a danger to the golf course. The THDC General Manager gave a presentation about the proposed preventive works at the meeting.

Governor’s Secretary Arun Dhaundiyal, Nainital District Magristrate Deepak Rawat, PWD Chief Engineer BC Binwal, THDC GM (Design) Rajiv Vishnoi, Rajiv Aggarwal and Nainital DFO Tejaswini Patil attended the meeting.
