Governor KK Paul was given a warm welcome by local reisents at Munsiyari in Pithoragarh district today.
Representatives of various organisations met the Governor and informed him about local problems . Members of the Malla Johar Club informed him about the need for providing doctors, including gynaecologists, at the hospital being run in the PPP mode in Munsiyari, starting a B.Sc course in the degree college, appointment of teachers for improving the standard of education and improving the communication facilities in the region.
The Governor was also informed about the topographical conditions of the area and the handloom work done by local people.
He directed District Magistrate Sushil Kumar that a mobile van with a team of doctors, including a gynaecologist, should put up camps for local people.
The Governor directed the District Magistrate that a plan be prepared for making loans from local banks available and also providing people with bazaars and haats to encourage the local craftspersons and manufacturers and promoting local products.
He said a government agency could help in encouraging local handicrafts. The administration should ensure that products of this area go out of the district.
He said this soil was very suitable for growing aromatic plants and local people should be encouraged to take up their cultivation This would boost the income of local people.
Earlier, during his visit to Gairsain, the Governor inspected the Vidhan Sabha building under construction there. He said the NH 87 which connects Garhwal and Kumaon should be named the Kumaon-Garhwal Trunk Road (KG Trunk Road) .
The Governor said that construction of accomodation for MLAs and officials should be completed before the work on the Vidhan Sabha building. Water and electricity supply should be ensured in all the buildings.
He said the Vidhan sabha campus should have trees planted all around.
He assured the people that their problems would be resolved. Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker AP Maikhuri informed the Governor about the work on the building and local issues.
Paul inspects Tehri hydropower house, lake
Governor KK Paul inspected the Tehri hydropower house and the Tehri dam lake on Saturday. He reached the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) helipad at Bagirithapuram around 2.00 pm and from there headed for the Tehri hydropower house. Paul inspected the powerhouse and said it is a unique model of modern technology and commended the efforts of the THDC engineers.
The Governor also inspected the Tehri dam lake and said the 42 sq km lake had immense potential for tourism. He was glad to know that an academy was coming up here to promote adventure sports on the lake. He said water sports, namely boating, and kayaking, once started would help in promoting tourism and generating employment for local youths. The Himalaya Darshan project of the state government would be another attraction for tourists in the state, he added.
General Manager, THDC, RS Malhotra, highlighted the importance of the THDC project and said around Rs 8,000 crore had been spent on it. Tehri District Magistrate Yugal Kishore Pant, and SP Mukhtar Mohisin were present on the occasion.
