Dehradun, January 27

Governor KK Paul unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute at an impressive parade held on the 66th Republic Day function at Parade Ground here yesterday. A tableaux of the state Forest Department, the Fire Department, the Medical, Health and Family Welfare Department, Jan Dhan Yojna, the Horticulture Department, the Water Shed Department and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan were the centre of attraction. Folk artistes regaled the audience with their performances.

The Governor honoured three policemen with the President’s Medal, seven with police medals and two police personnel were awarded medals for firefighting. Earlier, the Governor hoisted the flag at Raj Bhavan. He also paid homage to the heroes of the freedom struggle.

Paul extended his greetings to people. He said all of them must pledge to work with dedication and honesty to make Uttarakhand an ideal state. He urged the people to maintain unity and integrity of the nation. The Governor planted belpatra and rudraksh saplings on the campus to promote environment conservation.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Uttarakhand Congress chief Kishore Upadhyay, Mayor Vinod Chamoli, Chief Secretary N Ravishanker, DGP BS Sidhu and other officials were present on the occasion.

CM praises participants for their performances

Chief Minister Harish Rawat congratulated the police, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the SSB, NCC cadets, the police bands and retired soldiers for their performance during the Republic Day parade.

The Chief Minister said the presentation put up by all departments had been praiseworthy. He also disclosed that the Governor was pleased with theprogramme.

Finance Minister Dr Indira Hridayesh, Chief Secretary N Ravishankar and a large number of government officials, besides other dignitaries and local people present on the occasion appreciated various presentations.
